Bailey

Hugh Bailey

Jacob Bailey

I am researching my family tree and wondered if you can help. My great-grandmother was Mary Ellen Machin (not as far as I know related to the Mary Machin Mr & Mrs White are looking for) who was married to Jacob Bailey. Jacob grew up in a house at the foot of Mow Cop. The story has it that him & his brother was able to jump out of their bedroom window & climb straight up the hill to the castle. His brother Hugh Bailey was a Primitive Methodist preacher. I don't know their parents' names or the address of the house but would be very interested to know if you might have some information. I searched your census extract but couldn't find any Baileys. I have got an old watercolour of the castle and some of the hill but the house isn't on it. If you can throw any light on the mystery I would be very grateful. Jacob & Hugh Bailey had a stepsister called Fanny who married John (no surname). They had a daughter called Nenna who married Bernard (no surname). After I emailed you, I went back to your site & wondered through the photos. I came across a Myrick Bailey, Norah Bailey & Harry Bailey amongst the school photos. I wonder if they could be related?

Yours Faithfully Mrs Lucy Meyer-Hübner
