New Book

There has not been a definitive work on Mow Cop written since W.J.Harper wrote "Mow Cop and Its Slopes" back in 1907.

Local Historian Philip Leese has compiled enough information and illustrations to fill two books. The first is titled, "Mow Cop: A Working History" and will sell for £9.95. It has about 190 pages and about 100 illustrations. It covers the way Mow Cop people have earned their livings over the years - quarrying, coal mining, farming, transport, fustian, shops and other trades, and public houses. The second volume, covering the castle, tourists, churches and chapels, schools, arts and entertainments, will be published before Christmas (hopefully)
