17750 Pte. William Bloor

17750 Private William Bloor was born in 1896 in Middlewich, eldest son of John George & Annie Bloor (nee Barnett) of Low Street, Rode Heath. William had 2 sisters Beatrice and Edith and 1 brother John, his occupation was a Boatman and he worked for the Shropshire Union Canal Company, he started working on the boats at the age of 14 years, he was unmarried.

William enlisted on 18/06/1915 in Stoke-on-Trent. Part of his Military Service Records is as follows:

Home 18/06/1915 – 22/06/1915 (Home means in Britain), there is no date when he embarked for Mesopotamia, all we know is that he was killed on the 29^th March 1917 and that his body was never found, he is remembered on Panel 34 on the Basra Memorial, Iraq. William’s medals were sent to his mother in 1921.
