The Park Reopens 2006

On 20th July 2006 the Moorland Road Playground was officially opened, and what a turn out there was, as well as the local children of Castle Primary School there were dignitaries, photographers and anyone else involved
in council publicity. The park was opened (and not before enjoying a swing and a slide) by Newcastle Mayor
Bill Sinnott and was accompanied by Kidsgrove Town Mayor Sandra Bowyer. Sandra was on the MCRA steering committee for the first 12 months.

The playground has been designed for 4 - 12 year olds and has so far proven very popular. The original playground was closed several years ago when Aspire Housing took over the park for health and safety issues.

The Mayor's Speech

Members of the council, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls.

I am pleased to be with you this afternoon as we celebrate the opening of this wonderful new playground, which I am sure, will prove to be an asset to the local community, bringing enjoyment to all those who use it.

It is good to know that the local children will have a safe environment to play in and no doubt, as the summer holidays get underway, it will prove its worth almost immediately.

I know have great pleasure in declaring the Moorland Road Playground, officially open. Thank you

The money for park all £55,000 came from the sale of the waste ground at the top of Church Lane, which ironically is the issue that started the MCRA, so I was delighted to hear that the local community benefited directly from the sale.

We now have a slide, 2 sets of swings, a roundabout, a small see-saw and a climbing frame all surrounded by safety floor and fences. Thank you and well done to all involved
